Unfortunately this doesn't answer the thread question about Linux installing a scanner, but at least one of your suggestions should work for someone in that position. None of the scan programs, native or installed in Linux, recognized the scanner I needed to get this scanner working so I bit the bullet and changed my main OS from Linux Zorin to Windows 7 Ultimate, the scanner software is now installed and works great. Workaround: I had the bright idea of creating a USB boot disk for Windows, thinking that it would run from the boot disk and I would scan from that, however Windows only has the option to Install, not run, and nothing else. Then to top that off the smaller drive refused to format as Ventoy had locked it, I ended up having to format it on the Linux machine, haven't tried to "fix" the 4tb disk yet - what a fiasco. So I tried Ventoy on 2 USB disks, both for Linux and Windows, and neither of them worked at all, no OSs started or ran - quite disappointing. EDIT reference on how to use: Opens a new window
